BIS Certification for Hand Tools

Quality Control Order for Hand Tools

The ministry of commerce and industry issued this Quality Control Orders (QCO) after consulting with the Bureau of Indian Standards to regulate the quality of various hand tool products. These orders mandate that manufacturers comply with certain standards as per BIS guidelines and obtain BIS certification before marketing their products.

The Quality Control Order was published on 17th September, 2024 by the Bureau of Indian Standards in the official gazette.

(1)   This order may be called the Hand Tools (Quality Control) Order, 2024

(2)    It shall come into force on the expiry of 6 months from the date of publication of this notification in the Official Gazette.

Implementation date of Quality Control Order for Hand tools

  1. For large or foreign manufacturers: It shall come into force on the expiry of 6 months from the date of publication of this notification.
  2. For small manufacturers: It shall come into force on the expiry of 9 months from the date of publication of this notification.
  3. For micro enterprises: It shall come into force on the expiry of 12 months from the date of publication of this notification

Compulsory Use of Standard Mark

When BIS certification is granted to the manufacturers, it is compulsory to use ISI mark on the products as per their specified standards. The ISI mark is the mark on a product which shows that the product is tested and certified by the BIS.
