QCO for Cookware and Utensils
Ministry has notified this Quality Control Order to make BIS Certification mandatory for Cookware and Utensils. This QCO has notified on 9th August, 2023 through Bureau of Indian Standards (National Body of India).
The implementation date of this QCO for Cookware and Utensils
For Large Enterprises, it shall come into force from 6 months from the date of publication of this notification in the Official Gazette.
For Small Enterprises, it shall come into force from 9 months and for Micro Enterprises, it shall come into force from 12 months from the date of publication of this QCO.

Compulsory use of Standards Mark (ISI Mark)
Products included in this must have a Standard Mark (ISI Mark) from the date when QCO come into force. Now, the manufacturers must get BIS Certification to adhere to ISI Mark for their products. Without BIS Certification manufacturers of these products are not allowed to sale their products in the Indian market.

BIS Certification Process for Cookware and Utensils
BIS Certification process is the set of steps for all the products that are required for BIS Certification. The process for BIS Certification is different for Domestic Manufacturers and Foreign Manufacturers as per the guidelines of government.

After successfully scrutiny of the application, BIS nominates an auditor to audit your manufacturing premises.
- Audit of manufacturing premises by BIS auditor
The nominated BIS officer audits your manufacturing premises to inspect all the technical manufacturing processes, testing facilities, raw materials, etc.
- Grant of BIS license to manufacturer
If the testing of your product is successful as per the required standards in the BIS-recognized laboratory, BIS will grant your license.
