These tests evaluate various aspects of the water bottles, such as durability, chemical composition, and resistance to contamination. The bottle manufacturers may apply for BIS certification after the successful completion of testing.

Usually, the application process includes sending the BIS the required paperwork, such as test results and manufacturing specifications. The BIS awards certification after verification and acceptance, enabling the manufacturer to brand their potable water bottles with the esteemed ISI Mark.
