The surge in demand for electrical appliances catering to skin and hair care necessitates stringent quality control measures. By considering the use of electrical appliances for skin or hair care, Bureau of Indian Standards (Govt. of India) has made BIS Certification mandatory for these products.

QCO for Electrical Appliances for Skin or Hair Care

MINISTRY OF COMMERCE AND INDUSTRY (Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade) has notified a Quality Control Order (QCO) through the Bureau of Indian Standards on 5th March, 2024 to make BIS Certification mandatory for electrical appliances for skin or hair care.

  • This order may be called the Electrical Appliances for Skin or Hair Care (Quality Control) Order, 2023.
  • For large manufacturers or importers, it shall come into force on the expiry of 12 months from the date of publication of this notification in the Official Gazette.
  • For micro enterprises, it shall come into force on the expiry of 15 months from the date of publication of this notification.
  • For small enterprises, it shall come into force on the expiry of 18 months from this notification’s publication date.

Compulsory use of Standard Mark

Now, as the Bureau of Indian Standards has made BIS certification mandatory for electrical appliances for skin or hair care, all the manufacturers or importers of these products must get BIS certification as per the standard of their products.

By getting BIS Certification, manufacturers or importers can adhere to ISI Mark on their products, which shows the products’ safety and reliability.

Any person who contravenes this Order’s provisions shall be punishable under the provision of BIS Act, 2016.
