For Tin Ingot BIS certification is mandatory now as per the recent Quality Control Order issued by the Ministry of Mines. Tin Ingot, widely used in the manufacturing of alloys, soldering, and coating materials. The Ministry of Mines, after consulting The Bureau of Indian Standards (Govt. of India), has made BIS certification mandatory for Tin Ingot as per specified Indian Standard. BIS Certification in India ensures national standards for both consumers and manufacturers. This certification also establishes consumer trust, as it guarantees the product meets stringent quality standards.

Quality Control Order for Tin Ingot

To ensure compliance with Indian quality standards, manufacturers and importers of Tin Ingot must obtain a BIS ISI mark license. The ISI mark is a certification mark that signifies that the product conforms to the Indian Standard IS 26:2024, which specifies the requirements for Tin Ingots. Once a product is certified, the ISI mark can be affixed on it, indicating that it has passed all prescribed quality and safety tests.

The Indian government has brought Tin Ingot under the purview of a Quality Control Order (QCO). This order mandates that no Tin Ingot shall be manufactured, imported, stored, or sold in India without the BIS certification. Ministry of Mines, has issued Quality Control Orders (QCO), on the date 17th April, 2025, after consulting the Bureau of Indian Standards to regulate the Tin Ingot  for  their production, import, and sale. These orders mandate that specific products comply with Indian Standards and obtain The  Bureau of Indian Standards  certification. Manufacturers failing to comply with QCOs may face legal actions, including penalties or a ban on product sales.

  • This Order may be called the Tin Ingot (Quality Control) Order, 2025.
  • This Order shall come into force with effect from 6 months from the date of publication of this notification.
