Agro textiles are specialized fabrics used in agriculture, horticulture and forestry to enhance productivity and sustainability. These textiles are used in protecting crops, conserving water and improving yield. Given their importance in the agricultural sector, the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has made BIS Certification mandatory for certain Agro Textile products to ensure their quality, reliability, and safety.
Quality Control Order (QCO) for Agro Textiles
The Ministry of Textiles has notified a Quality Control Order for Agro Textiles on 28th March, 2024 to make BIS certification mandatory for certain Agro Textiles. This Quality Control Order was notified by the ministry after consulting the Bureau of Indian Standards to ensure the quality and safety of these products.
(1) This Order may be called the Agro Textiles (Quality Control) Amendment Order, 2024.
(2) It shall come into force from the date of its publication in the official Gazette.
Date of Implementation: This order shall come into force on the 1st July 2024.
